The foundation of our work
The futsal tournament held the day before Easter in 2024 holds a special place in the history of our association. It was the first event we officially organized as UPSKKM Galeb, and these very first steps taught us how logistics, organization, and teamwork function on the ground.
Since then, we have decided to make this tournament a tradition; therefore, every year, on the day before Easter Sunday, we gather at the Dr. Mate Demarin elementary school sports hall in Medulin.
Sportsmanship above numbers
Although the turnout in 2025 was not as large as in our premiere year, we remained consistent in our mission. We held the tournament with the same passion, as we believe it is essential to maintain continuity and provide young people with an opportunity for sports socialization regardless of the circumstances.
For all tournament participants, we always provide food and drinks, as well as fair play in a competitive spirit, maintained within a friendly atmosphere.
The tradition of “egg shicanje”
What makes our tournament special and different from others is what follows the football. To celebrate the upcoming holiday in an old-fashioned way, we introduced the custom of “šicanje jaja” (egg hitting).
This old folk game involves aiming at boiled eggs with coins (specifically the Croatian Kuna). The rule is straightforward but challenging: the winner is the first person to hit the egg so that the coin stays embedded (“stuck”) inside it. It is a moment that always sparks the most laughter and joy among both competitors and volunteers.

Gratitude to the Community
Looking back, this tournament marked the true beginning of our operations. It is proof that with goodwill and organization, something of high quality can be launched for the youth in our municipality.
As always, none of this would be possible without:
- Our volunteers: Who selflessly handled everything from the scorekeeper’s table to food preparation.
- The municipality of Medulin: Which provides us with support regarding the hall facilities and logistics.
We look forward to future editions of this tournament and hope that each year will attract an increasing number of participants and spectators.
